Description
Helios 44-2 Lens is a classic 58mm lens that was produced as the kit prime on the Zenit-series russian SLR.
A family of Soviet lens «Helios» was very popular in the USSR. Despite the fact that the auto focus had not been invented yet, and that lens was manual (with manual focus), lens Helios is still popular among amateur and even professional photographers.
One of the most popular models of this manufacturer was lens Helios-44-2. They were produced at the Belarusian Optical-Mechanical Association and the Krasnogorsk mechanical plant. According to preliminary calculations, there were about three million pieces produced in Soviet Union.
Soviet engineers decided not to reinvent the wheel and based their lens on the famous German Carl Zeiss Jena «Biotar 2/58″. The optical design was modified and supplied as a staff completing for plastic Soviet camera «Zenit-ET», «Zenit-10″.
One of the most important characteristics of this model is bokeh. The lens takes pictures with a stunning twisted bokeh, which for artistic expression can easily compete with the overpriced modern optics of venerable manufacturers, and in some aspects may be even better.
